Joy Tang – (Taipei, Taiwan) Coming from a diverse cultural background, Ms. Joy Tang combines her knowledge and experiences in both private and not-for-profit sectors to serve humanity and to build community prosperity. As a global community builder, she has built her career around initiatives to promote human capacity building, new business creation, rural village economy revitalization, and Youth and Women’s empowerment.

While at Cisco Systems, she held positions in the areas of Government Alliances, Emerging Market Development, Sales Development, Executive Business Briefing and Marketing. As a Cisco Fellow she gained specialized skills and knowledge in the field of development focusing on the areas of human capacity building, education, ICT4D, Corporate Social Responsibility, social entrepreneurship and culture learning which were used to:

  • Assist the start up of a NGO called Teachers Without Borders;
  • Develop One Economy programs in depressed areas in the USA;
  • Participate in ITU’s Least Developed Countries Initiative helping to address the digital divide in areas of the world suffering from extreme poverty.

In 2003, her effort was focused on the development of oneVillage Initiative (OVI):

  • Highlights the role of ICT in building a interdisciplinary, bottom up approach;
  • Focuses on urgent issues that threaten the viability and stability of global villages;
  • Provides capacity building services for underserved communities by harnessing global wisdom to motivate people;
  • Designs, evolves and promotes sustainable models for global sustainability.

Joy believes that multiplying society’s capacity to adapt and change intelligently and constructively and building the necessary underlying collaborative architecture, is the world’s most critical opportunity now. The opportunity is here for everyone. [email protected]

Andrew Lee - (Hualian, Taiwan) is our Open Source Liasion focusing on the Debian Linux fork for Asian countries. He has many years of experience working on various FLOSS projects in Taiwan and has attended various Open Source related conferences and events. to name a few: he participated in the 2008 Linux World Conference, introducing the Linux X11 Desktop Environment (LXDE) system used in the launch of the EeePC; and attended the Skolelinux developers gathering and user conference in Norway in Oct 08. Currently, he is serving in key roles to develop the Open Source community in Taiwan: as a board member of the Software Liberty Association of Taiwan; co-founder and maintainer of the Taiwan Localization Project; and the Linux Taiwan coordinator and administrator; Debian Taiwan; and the Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment (LXDE). Andrew enjoys balancing his IT work with learning about indigenous culture particularly drumming as a proud member of Unity Drum, organizing various cultural events to promote Indigenous culture. Olaposi Abiola - Director of OVF Nigeria - studied electrical engineering and computer science. He has involved with several engineering associations including IEEE and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). He also understands the need for cultural and religious diversity in the global village. As a OVF team member, he has highlighted the need for greater cooperation between NGO and corporate communities, to foster practical, economically viable solutions towards the development of a sustainable society for Nigeria and the world. Emmanuel Richardson - Program manager of Unity Drum - is passionate about his culture and tradition. Growing up in Cape Coast, Ghana, he lives and breathes the stories and rhythms of his elders’ life experiences. His dream is to share his culture with the world through dancing, drumming, singing and storytelling. He is a modern-day ‘GRIOT’ - the traditions carrier to create civilization and community life. He has been an instrumental goodwiil ambassador of Ghana to the Taiwanese Youth during oneVillage’s EcoTour Service and Learning Program in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, Richardson will lead a group of young Ghaha performing artists to participate in OVF ’digital archive’ program to form collaborative networked improved community with Taiwan NTHU Youth in art for development.
